Diss Decorative & Fine Arts Society

Next Lecture

Theatrical personalities of the 20th Century

This lecture will take us throught the generation of Britsh actors who emerged and developed during the 20th century to world-wide acclaim, their names as familiar as our own – Ashcroft, Evans, Gielgud, Olivier and Richardson.

The development of this group will be illustrated in paintings and photographs and accounts will be given to show the effect their careers had on the present generation.

Our speaker, Frances Hughes, is a freelance lecturer in Art and Theatre History after a career in education (18 years as a head teacher) and is Hon. Secretary of the Shakespeare Reading Society (founded 1875) and Chairman of the Irving Society and the Henry Irving Foundation.
